Tomorrow is the NFL championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers. The winner of the game will go to Superbowl XLVIII (that would be No. 48 for those of us who need help figuring it out). The AFC championship game will also be played tomorrow, between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. Not as interesting to me now that I live here, but rest assured I will NOT be watching the game. My heart won't take it (smile). I'll be at the movies seeing "August: Osage County" with my friend Judy. Shouldn't be much of a crowd in the theater.
When I lived in Colorado, I was always happy to hear that the Broncos were doing well and would watch the playoff games, and once I watched what I consider to be the most exciting football game I ever saw, in 1998 when the Broncos beat Green Bay in a nail biter of a Superbowl. I decided then and there I wouldn't watch live games any more when I cared so much about the outcome.
And now my old team, the Broncos, and my new team, the Seahawks, might be playing in this Superbowl. I saw an article about the fact that Colorado and Washington, being the only two states to legalize recreational marijuana use, would probably want to rename the game to something like "the Oobie Doobie Bowl." (grin)
This coming week I should finish seeing all the movies that have been nominated for Academy Awards, except for "12 Years a Slave" (not playing around here right now) and "The Wolf of Wall Street." I have enjoyed them all, in different ways, but I'm hard pressed to think of one I'd like to see actually win Best Picture. I'm leaning toward "Dallas Buyers Club" but think, from what I've heard, that "12 Years" deserves to take home the gold. If so, I'll definitely get another chance to see it in the theaters.

oh you should see 12 years when you get a chance...we saw it when we went to asheville as it was not around here...i am excited for seattle as far as football...my team is already out and i would be happy really with either of the nfc teams that won tomorrow....really dont want brady to win...smiles...
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for August, Osage county to be on general release here as the trailers look good. I still think Philomena was excellent but I've not sen 12 years yet.

I've seen it twice. One of the best movies ever, in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteWe got a late start on seeing the nominated movies, and I have surgery in two weeks so we'll have to just see what we can squeeze in. We saw Philomena and American Hustle last night. We loved Philomena, but we didn't find American Hustle very funny. Granted there were just a few folks in the theater when we watched it at the late show, but nobody laughed.
You can be assured that I WILL be watching the Seahawks football game Sunday, and the Broncos too, for that matter, but I may be pacing the floor. Jill and her brother Jake have tickets to the game at the stadium. We will have the grand kids. Isaac says he might not be able to watch it either.
i'm not a sports fan but always hope the fans get a good match-up.

ReplyDeleteI lost access to my team (Dolphins) when I moved here so I have adopted the Broncos. Payton is so good, cute and funny. I'll be watching that game. I'll be listening for "OMAHA".

And here I thought football season was over. It ended, in Canada, before Christmas. But you folks play on. And on.

You are more of a sports fan than I am. I just don't fallow sports anymore. Now I'm not going to say that other people shouldn't fallow sports. Everybody makes their own choice.
ReplyDeleteFootball of any variety is something I have never 'got'. There are rabid fans in the family - but I would rather watch the grass grow.

The only sport I watch is the Tour de France in July and that takes 3 weeks! So I don’t watch any other sport the rest of the year unless the Olympic Games are on. We saw 12 Years a Slave in Nashville the day after Christmas, and I really liked it. We usually go to the movies before the Oscars so we are due to go next week. The last movie we had seen before that was Blue Jasmine and I really enjoyed that movie too.

I used to be a Broncos fan years ago though, when John Elway was still playing. And I think Payton Manning is a great guy. One of our twin boys has loved him since he was a small boy, I'm happy to see him having such success.
I keep hearing from all ages that Frozen is wonderful, I'm thinking about taking the younger kids to see it as a special winter treat.

I refuse to see 12 years in a theater-I need to fast forward re the violence. But my son (who has not seen American Hustle) says its the best movie of the year. I have my Broncos quilt that I can throw over my head and tell everyone else "tell me when it's over" If I need to. I've been saying it was the Seahawks and the Broncs or the patriots since week one. Every so often I'm actually right, so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteWe have been following the Dakar Rally down in South America and haven't been paying attention to football. But even on our side of the state support for the Seahawks is very strong. I like to watch the Super Bowl sometimes if it's an exciting game.

Go Packers, eh. he,he couldn't resist it. Movies - we do not have a theater unless we go to the Big City and that's a long trip in winter, so give me a good book any day and I'll catch up with the movies eventually. Just my opinion on Movies and Sports - a whole lotta glam n money spent to support most of their drug habits - just saying.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to all those people with a favorite team in the football playoff games. I used all my enthusiasm on the FSU quest this year. Since the Eagles are out of the playoff season, I don't have a favorite. I agree that it is hard to watch when you get invested in one team and agonize when they lose.
ReplyDeleteI could care less about sports in general--LOL! But I have lived with people who loved them, so I know the mania and the sounds and the shouting quite well. I don't miss it. ;)

ReplyDeleteBronco vs Seahawks it is! Been a Green Bay fan for the past 30+ years but all the years I lived and grew up in Colorado puts the Bronco's in a special place for me. Even marched a half time with my high school band at one of their games. Alas, I took a nap during their game today, but did find myself cheering for the Seahawks during that one. Hmmmm. Probably should have been at the movies.

ReplyDeleteWe don't watch football, but my nephew played with the 49ers a few years back so I have a jersey with his name and number...and we got to go to a preseason game in Minneapolis where he played. He was not offered a permanent contract...which was sad but we have all recovered.
