Virtual toast

A Christmas toast
On Wednesday, Norma Jean and I shared a virtual toast to the holiday on video chat. Once I'm down there in Florida visiting, we will do this every evening at 5:00pm. I know her glass looks huge, but it's not, really. We both measure out exactly 8 ounces of wine for our evening repast, and once it's gone, it's over until the next evening. I know a serving is supposed to be 5 ounces, but it's not quite enough for me! This is perhaps not a small serving, but it has grown to be my usual daily portion, and so far my liver enzymes seems up to the task.

The widget that I use on my blogs to search for previous posts is broken. When I tried to use it to find that Christmas Eve post last week, I saw that it wasn't working and went over to my other blog to discover that it doesn't work over there, either. It's annoying because I use that feature all the time to link to previous posts over the years.

There is a website for Blogger called "Something Is Broken" and I found that this has been a problem for many other bloggers for a few months now. It might have been broken for that long, too, but there doesn't seem to be anything to do about it except remove it for the time being. Then I discovered another similar code that works somewhat; it links all the posts with the search word in it, instead of just a few lines. I've replaced the broken one with the substitute for now. If you use it and wonder how to get out of it once you've used it, I found that clicking on the banner will take you back. Sigh. It is free, after all, but sometimes Blogger can be a real pain.

My internal clock is kind of screwed up, since Christmas (and, soon, New Years) falls right in the middle of the week, so when I wake up I must puzzle for a minute or two as to what day of the week it is. Tomorrow is Sunday, though, and I'll be heading off to the movies with my friend Judy. Her family is gone and it's time for us to catch up!
:-)

  1. love your video toast. yes, that search thing sometimes does nothing.

there is a way to search inside your dashboard in your 'posts' tab by typing in a keyword. i've used that to find old posts.

  2. Wordpress.com is free, but to be ad-free, I must pay them $30 per year. So far, my search bar works. It's nice to be so close to one's sibling. Wish that were true for every family.

  3. So many Blogger widgets go missing or cease to function.. only to come back some time later.

I love your shared toast. And 8 ounces sounds just about right to me.. a cup of wine.

  4. I, for one, am suspicious. You talked of a toast, but I didn't see any toast anywhere. Are you sure you are all right?

As well, Blogger is not the problem. The problem is the NSA. Get accustomed to the trouble. The NSA is not going away.

Blessings and Bear hugs from my hideout somewhere in Canada.

  5. It is good that you and Norma Jean toast each other...I am certain she is ready to run your butt off once you get to Florida...so you better start training extra now! :)

  6. I saw DJan's question on what's broken! Some of these programs are left behind when other programs are modified so the widget doesn't work anymore.

  7. So wonderful that you can keep in touch and "toast" across the miles.
    Hugs,
    J.

  9. Don't you just love technology? How else could we share a glass across the country?

I use the search feature under posts and so far it's been working fine. Blogger always seems to have some sort of issue.

My hubby has taken some time off from work this month and again before Christmas and my internal clock is totally confused.

  10. Love the virtual toast. And yes, the search feature in my blog is deceased at the moment (temporarily I hope).

  11. I like that idea of toasting across the miles. So much of what you write always rings true. I will not get out of bed until my brain is into gear telling what day of the week it is and what I have planned for the day.

  12. While you're in your blogger admin, you can do a search for a certain keyword or phrase from you past postings DJan. That's what I always use. The less gadgets on the blog the less it breaks. LOL

Love the toast you and your sister share. Something like my sister and I do each March 18th!! Sisters are the best!!!!

Have a terrific day dear one.

  13. I'm so frustrated with Blogger - lately it isn't publishing my posts when I hit publish - it posts them HOURS later. But as you say, it is free so I guess I shouldn't complain, but still....

    Love that virtual toast!

  14. I quit using the "search this blog widget" and now use the blank space at the upper left of my page (right by the Share button) which works like a charm. Hope that works for you.
So glad you can enjoy face time with your sister. Sometimes technology is amazing.

  15. Its really great what we can do with all this great technology, eh, DJan. We have power, however many residents are still in the dark and the storm that wasn't supposed to hit us till 1pm is raging on us now. We have had many bad storms over the years, however, this bunch in particular have never affected the people the way these pas 8-9 days have been - NO Power, also no phones, for many people have switched over to Fiber OP, which means no copper wire running to your land line - its now fiber - so after 8 hrs of battery backup, those people also have no way of talking to anyone. We never switched over, cause as much as I would like fiber, I am not changing my land line - so I have a working telephone even if the power goes down.
Anyway, enough about storms, SO good to see you n your Sister sharing a toast - that's a neat idea. Have a wonderful New Years.

  17. My clock is skew wiff too D-Jan. I prefer Christmas and the New Year to be at the weekend. I like the picture of you and your sister enjoying a glass of wine. A very Happy New Year to you and yours, x

  18. I don't know what widget you mean, I guess. All of my previous posts are available on my side bar. I do find that "new and improved" usually isn't, however. I have discovered, much to my annoyance, that when I use the facebook icon to link my blog post to facebook, I can no longer select which photo it will post.
It is now Sunday as I read this post. You will be off to the movies. I need to get out for a walk, and then I'll be watching the Seahawks, in a "must win" game. See you later.

  21. It is so nice that you and your sister are so close. I know you will enjoy your vacation visit. :)

I am having trouble knowing what day it is, too--LOL! We shall survive. Happy New Year!! :)

  22. I do love using Skype. It keeps us close to our children and grandchildren. Technology can be a pain, but at other times it's a blessing.

I haven't checked my widgets lately. I hope they're working OK. I'm now working on privacy issues.

  23. My clock is all out of whack, too.. AND - I also found that my search tool that I use to find old posts on my blog now & then is broken.

I'm enjoying the holidays & vacation time with the family, but I'll be happy to get back on track next week.

In case I get lost in the chaos & not back on here over the next day or two.. HAPPY NEW YEAR, DJAN!!

I really appreciate your comments! If you see a word verification box here, just ignore it. I don't use the darn thing and Blogger is trying to get us to use it, I guess. Ignore it and your comment will still appear.
