A different kind of Thursday post

I didn't go on the regular Thursday hike today, because I'm using my energy to clean our apartment in anticipation of the move this weekend. It's Labor Day Weekend in more ways than one for me!

After Monday's long hike, I realized that today's hard hike to the summit of Church Mountain was not a very good way for me to expend my energy, even though it would be fun. And even though the weather is supposed to be wonderful this weekend, I won't be getting my knees in the breeze, either. Instead I will be on my hands and knees scrubbing floors, dusting places that haven't seen a duster since we moved in. The more I can clean, the less I will have to pay the landlord for cleaning in readiness for the next tenant. And I learned yesterday that this place has already been rented! That means one day in between for the rug to be steam cleaned and any other cleaning to be done. This is a huge job, and we are only moving from one end of the apartment complex to the other. Still, everything needs to be boxed up other than perhaps the clothes in my closet, which I can carry from one place to the next.

We've hired two high school seniors to help us move on Sunday. I will pick them up, take them home after paying them, and am incredibly happy for their strong backs to do most of the lifting. I'm frazzled from all the tasks that need doing, and I find myself starting one thing before another is finished. Got to get a grip! This weekend will be the big push, and after that, we can move in a little at a time. We'll be sleeping in our new apartment Sunday. I will be without internet connection for a whole day! Hope I'll be able to survive that.

  2. This move came as a surprise to me. I'm sure there a good reason because moving is too much work to do on a whim. I hope it will be over soon. Such a time makes normal living look wonderful.

  4. It's great that you hired some help, and that you'll be able to get settled as quickly or slowly as the spirit moves you. Hope you enjoy your new place as much as the "old," and of course that it's much quieter.

  5. Glad you got some help although I have a feeling you're probably in better shape than the high school seniors!

  7. What a great idea to hire students. You're wise to save your energy for this task. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

  8. Hiring the students was a great idea! I hope they are strong and ambitious.

I don't envy you with the move. I know it will be a lot of work but fortunately you can carry your valuables yourself because you're moving close by.

Take it easy on yourself and happy moving! xo jj

  9. I hope the move goes well! Sounds like you've got most things organized or under control.

Without internet for a day? You've survived that before you had the web in your place. I'm sure you'll survive again.

    Blessings an Bear hugs.

  11. It's stressful, isn't it? I sure don't envy you! I hope your new digs will prove to be better than your old apartment. (Mainly, better neighbors!)

  12. Moving is so stressful. I am super glad that you have some strong young backs to help with the hard yards - and am looking forward to photos when you have settled in and can take a breath again. Good luck with it all.

  13. Hiring some young, strong backs is a really good idea. It's still going to be a lot of work even with the help. Good luck with the cleaning, I have always found that to be almost as much work as the move itself.

It will all be worthwhile to have quieter neighbors.

  14. I hate housework, although I do it and especially dusting. A chore I could do without and gladly pass on to someone else. Give me any job outside the house and I will happily do it, but somehow that inside stuff just isn't for me. ha,ha
Really great DJan that you hired a couple of students to help out. Nice to know those strong backs will do the heavy stuff, even though I think you could give em a run for the money, eh! Gee, no post from you out in the wild today and a whole day without the internet - whatever is DJan's world coming to.
Best of luck with all you have to do in your move and happy house when you have settled. Cheers

  15. DJan,
I feel your pain. Sometimes the stuff you must do gets in the way of the stuff you'd rather be doing. Hiring two strong "backs" will serve you well. Good luck with your move.

  16. Good to hear that you hired some help...and you can unpack at your leisure..but something tells me you will want it all done..to get settled into your new digs completely. Take it easy..one thing at a time. I will be thinking of you on Sunday:)

  19. I know only so well thos extra cleaning charges they can and do tack on, if everything is not considered worthy of the 'white-glove' test.
When we were in the military, I would spend days cleaning, and still get a 'punch list' before we could move on...
A great job for those high school seniors, they've got all that teenage energy to work off :)
Good Luck with your mini move !

  20. Dear DJan, well do I remember packing up and cleaning my Stillwater, MN, home after living there for 32 years. Oh, the achy body and all the decisions: what to keep, what to discard, what to give to Good Will, what to throw in the trash. And then the boxing of all of it and the cleaning of places that as you say, hadn't been cleaned in years! A lot to do, so I'm glad you and your husband have hired help. That will make such a difference as to how your body will feel come Sunday evening. Peace.

  21. I'm glad you got some young'uns to help with the move! You are probably moving right now or soon! Can hardly wait till it is over and you can relax and unpack at your leisure. The packing up and actual moving are always the worst part. I hope it all goes smoothly and quickly. :)

  22. I'm so glad you were able to get help for your move and that everything went well. Your hike was a wonderful reward for all your hard work.

  23. Moving is never easy unless you're so rich you just pay and say do it like this. Most us don't get to do that. Labor away. As a catch up you are now all done :))
