From Climate Prediction Center |
Usually if we have hot weather around here it happens in August, but not this year. Now it is setting up to be a super-warm September, but that's really okay since it will cool down quickly at night. The only reason why my Canadian friends can't tell what is happening to their weather from that graph is that the Climate Prediction Center (link under the above picture) stops all predictions at the border. I'm sure they will be much hotter than normal, too.
This morning's walk with the Fairhaven group took us to Zuanich Point Park at Squalicum Harbor. Several of my blogging friends have been showing me their part of the world in their posts, and it occurred to me that you might be interested in seeing what my new home town of Bellingham has to offer. I have certainly been enjoying my virtual travels. Usually the water in the harbor is nowhere near this calm and the skies have clouds, but this crystal clear morning I took a few moments to take pictures.
I turned around to snap a picture of two of the walkers who brought their dogs along. Around 15-20 of us (and half a dozen dogs) met at 8:00am and took a brisk six-mile walk from the Farmers' Market to Zuanich and back, and then we had coffee together. I left just before 10:00am (when the Market opens) so I could be sure to get my collards first thing. As I write this, Smart Guy is chopping and steaming them to provide us with some very tasty and nutritious greens for the week.
My bookshelf is full again. After having read all the others I bought a month ago, I headed down to the Village Bookstore with nine to return and left with four new ones. Actually, all but one of them were used, previously owned and half price. They place the half-price books on the shelves with the new ones, and if I get a choice I buy the used ones. The bookstore will buy them back as well, I've discovered. I'm currently ensconced in another Jodi Picoult book, this time My Sister's Keeper. I thought I had read it before, but I haven't. It was made into a movie in 2009, but somehow it escaped my notice.
Hopefully you will have a safe and delightful weekend and, if you're in the US, a nice three-day weekend! Mine has started swimmingly (a half mile, to be exact) and tomorrow more skydiving, since the weather is, for once, not an issue!
:-)
Weather is so strange. It is finally cooler here and were able to get a lot of work done in the yard. Enjoy your day tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI find this sudden heat wave to be a bummer. Daughter is flying in next week from Texas. She gave orders for me to keep the weather cool. Looks like I may have to let her down. It's supposed to be above 90 all next week. Who would have thought, summer in September.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. I loved the shots of the harbour and am seriously in awe of anyone who can trade books in.
ReplyDeleteWe've been in the high seventies and eighties the past week but looks like our ninety degree temps are coming back by Labor Day. One of my favorite local events, Wheelin' Walla Walla, a car show, is next weekend. It is always hot for that so I guess our weather is back on track.
ReplyDeleteI really like that view of the harbor. I have only been to Bellingham once and I was still living in AK at the time. I love to see your city.
Your pictures are beautiful! I still haven't had time to post mine from our trip and now that I am back to work who know when I will be able to. It's stil hot here in NC! Lately our summers have been too hot! I hope you like My Sister's Keeper.....I did!
ReplyDeleteBellingham in the 80's...yikes...that is hot for that area. Have a great day jumping.
ReplyDeletenice...sisters keeper, the book, is much better than the movie...oy cant wait to hear what you think of the end...it is so humid here i feel like melting...
ReplyDeleteI guess we're in on your warm weather. We are expecting a week of above average. We had a hot last two weeks in Aug. which I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteI've written a note on your book so that I can remember it. Thanks.
I love the weather forecast - we have about 300 green tomatoes that I think may actually ripen this year.
ReplyDeleteHi DJan, Your photos are wonderful! I love to see the places you have been and what is interesting through your eyes! Oh 80's you will surely melt..we have 47 here tonight..cool:)
ReplyDeleteHey, if it's hot, there's always a/c. lol. We usually turn ours on when the thermometer indoors reads 83 and up. With a/c, the temperature sinks to 75, which is when I don a jacket. Love dry, cool weather.
ReplyDeleteAnd we cooled down to mid-60s in Fargo and was in the 40s during the night! Whoohoo! Gloriously cool! (I know--mean of me, eh?)
ReplyDeleteLove the pics. Sounds like a great bookstore. I haven't seen that movie yet. Let us know if it is a good book, okay? Hope you have a nice holiday, despite the heat. ;)
So you're getting our heat! Actually, it's been very hot here but we're cooling down significantly - just in time to head to the cottage, darn it! Thank you for sharing your town.. it's always nice to see someone's surroundings. Enjoy the lovely weather.. and the jump.
ReplyDeleteAudrey is 11. Alex was 19 last night.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is still another day off for many people.
Goodmorning DJan - just returned from short visit to PEI and while there saw this ?bomber type airplane, which two skydivers jumped out of. We stopped on a country road to watch and I said "WOW DJan would love this" The airplane really did look like one of those olde bomber airplanes from the past and the two jumpers landed in a cornfield, that had just been stripped. We were quite a distance from them, however it was still fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteHeatwave, .......we had one last month and it lasted 3 weeks - so humid, one could hardly snap a finger without breaking out in a sweat - glad its gone and so is my little PJ. Have a great day
Lilly
One of the things that living in Nebraska has helped me learn is to accept whatever type of weather the day brings. I am just happy to wake up to see it in person! It is an inspiration to watch you enjoy life to the full extent that you do.
ReplyDeleteWe're having perfect summer weather down here as well. Even hitting the 90s. But the evenings hold autumn in them, so it feels like the best of all worlds. I hope your weekend has been wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy wife told me of a comedian she heard recently who quipped that you know you are living in oregon when you hear the weatherman say : "It's 73 degrees outside with no relief in sight!"
