Lazy Sunday

Before snuggling into my favorite recliner with a book, I thought I'd post a little bit about this unusual (for me) Sunday: I've got nothing to do, no plans at all. The plans I had for the weekend were changed by the weather, since yesterday was sunny and bright, and this morning it's raining again. We should have a spell of some warm and dry weather after this front passes, however.

The picture I chose for this post is the best illustration I could find to direct you over to Teresa Evangeline's blog to read about the dream she had last night. She described it so perfectly that the images keep coming back to me, about floating silently down a stream in a little boat. She calls it "The Land Along the River," and I have pondered its meaning ever since I read it. It is very significant to me at this moment in time.

The other post that really got me this morning is from Friko, which she calls "Thank You, America." She's an Australian who lives in the UK and is concerned about seeing how unhappy so many of her American blogging friends are with this country's politics. Although I have refrained from posting anything about the politics of today (at least I think I have), I have not restrained myself in comments I've left on the posts of others. She reminded me of the kind and generous spirit that exists here, still to this day, and it lifted me up.

I am reminded again and again how important the virtual friendships I have made throughout the blogosphere are to me. I've even met a few in person here and there, and I find myself in a community of wonderful people who help point me toward concepts and ideas that I could not find alone. I follow a lot of blogs, and I sometimes fall behind and am forced to skip some of my favorites, but there are many moments these days when I change course completely because of something I have read, posted by a thoughtful and discerning blogger.

When I was working, I had no time for this activity. My days were spent in front of computers doing the bidding of my boss, my colleagues and coworkers -- not following the dreams and hopes and, yes, the trials and tribulations of my virtual community. Today, I can only offer my sincere gratitude for all of you for speaking your truths and opening your hearts.
:-)

  1. DJan, your 2 blogs are the kind I love to read. I tend to dislike political blogs, mainly because of their angry tone. Maybe, you would call me an ostrich, but I prefer to focus on the good and beautiful rather than the bad and ugly. It's just me in paradise.

  2. I don't talk politics on my blog, either. Try not to. Maybe because instead of making me angry (which seems to be the popular thing these days), it makes me soul weary sad.

Take it as a true blessing to have a day with nothing planned. Days for reflection are a gift that not many treasure these days. ;)

  6. You've said this very well. When we retire we have time to reflect on what we've done in our life. We also have time to look at views and opinions that we would not even consider before. Many blogs reflect on ideas from a life time of experience. And yes, readers benefit from these posts.

  8. I wholeheartedly agree about the importance of the blogosphere - new ways of thinking, new beauties to share. Sometimes I make political comments on my blog, but rarely. Mostly the it is the small things (for my small mind). Thank you for your space - it is full of energy, beauty and I read it with joy.

  9. I like to read the blogs. I think the best blogs are those that garner thousands of comments on each post. Makes you wonder what the attraction is. And there I am reading it myself. ???

  10. Happy for you!! Taking a down day...what are you reading??

I'm off to get peaches from a local orchard. I have some coming on, but not nearly enough, so I will support my local agriculture. Win/Win.

    Love you---Annie

  11. Thanks for the shout out and for all your comments. I agree that cats are indeed the best. Of course there wasn't a question about naughtiest. But they'd win that too.

  12. Those sound like some good blogs, I wish I had more time to sit and read some of the great ones out there. I don't get into politics much even in other blogs. While I might be vocal about the subject in person it's just not how I want to spend my blog time.

  13. Hey...

    Wake up!

    You still here?

Here is my reply. Don't gasp. I think you probably know it.

    Reply to DJan...

My kids say I have excessive compulsive disorder. If I do then it helps explain why I need the newest or latest of everything. So the blog change is a kind of excessive compulsive disorder thingy. It can not "ever" be just right. My mind thinks of things to make it look different, better or simpler. And I got to try that.

  15. You speak for all of us DJan. I do love to live vicariously through your adventures. You're my hero.

I usually have to do my visiting in spurts every few days because of our schedule too. I love visiting, but it requires a lot of concentration to savor the ideas that everybody is sharing.

  16. It's nice to have a day off sometimes, even when you are retired. I enjoy my blogging too and I try not to miss my favourites. Reading my favourites stops me writing my own sometimes, but that's ok.

I really appreciate your comments! If you see a word verification box here, just ignore it. I don't use the darn thing and Blogger is trying to get us to use it, I guess. Ignore it and your comment will still appear.
