And what might that be? Spring, of course! For all of you in the snowy and frigid East, here's what the Pacific Northwest looks like during the Winter Olympics. Jo over at A Majority of Two wrote a post on Sunday about her Winter Olympic magnolias (she lives in Vancouver, about an hour north of me). I took this picture of a miniature daffodil covered with raindrops as I walked in here to write a new post (click to enlarge).
Walking back to catch the bus after my morning workout, I saw this ornamental plum tree beginning to blossom out. It is the 16th of February! Although thinking back, I don't remember the dates I began to see all of this happening last year. However, we had an extremely cold January then, and this year we tied the record for the warmest January ever in Bellingham. So I suppose it's normal for everything to be springing up. My favorite meteorological website, Cliff Mass Weather Blog, has also said we have a Rex block setting up for the rest of the week, which will push our gardens even more. I don't mind. I'll leave you with a picture of the quintessential spring flower: the crocus, from outside my apartment.
:-)
I am sooo jealous. Snow and more snow that is all I have seen since mid- December. I would give just about anything to see a sign of Spring. Your flowers are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the bluish purple bulbs - happy Spring! I'll have to check out that weather blog - thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow, those crocus are awsome. I'm so excited to see touches of spring. Spring is wonderful in the Pacific Northwest because it lasts a very long time. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHey! I live in Florida and we are FREEZING! It has been below 32 degrees every morning when we get up. I think I am going to consider moving to a warm place...
ReplyDeleteWe were on a trip south last week and there were many flowers there but here I have not seen any yet. But it did snow heavily when we came back and it was lovely. It only lasted two days.
ReplyDeleteI so envy your spring-like weather there...we won't have spring here until the end of April or the beginning of May! I have over 600 tulips planted here so I await spring every year!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like El Nino has pushed your Spring just slightly ahead of ours. My daffodils are about two weeks away from blooming. It's about 57 on this side of the Cascades at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI think it was mid March last year before my daffodils bloomed. Those crocus are beautiful.
The Crocus are beautiful. It's snowing here today--bummer, cause the snow we had was almost all gone!
ReplyDeleteOh the promise of spring! It has snowed all day here and it's sooo cold! Your pictures provide a lovely break.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
You're making me so anxious for spring! Stop it! Anyway.. now that it's out of my system, go smell that daffodil for me would you?
ReplyDeleteYeah, just seeing those bits of color cheers one up because spring is not far away. Love the daffodil and the crocus.
ReplyDeleteOooh, just lovely ! My spirit is truly lifted by these gorgeous little flowers.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have some color in your life...at the moment, ours is all about white :)
{smiling} happily ...
Must be nice to see the buds of flowers. We probably won't even see the ground for months here in Western PA. Haven't seen this much snow in years. Enjoy the flowers.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful...we have a 6-foot show pile in the back yard but it's nice to realize that spring will come in a couple of months.
ReplyDeleteI am envious. Our ground is still covered... I long for flowers.
ReplyDeleteOh the joys of spring! It's already lighter each evening by 40 minutes or so here so that is always a good thing promising new growth and new starts. Terrific pictures.
ReplyDeleteOur flowers could be up and blooming but they are still under a foot or two or three of snow. LOL
ReplyDeleteWelcome spring DJ! I know everything will be colorful when spring comes...well the weather is not really good, it is extremely hot for the past weeks and everybody is getting sick, due to change in temperature. El Nino is hitting us badly, so sad. But the good news is I'm back and no flu at all! Miss you.
ReplyDeleteAL
You have spring!! ..like Rae..I am very jealous..but happy for you. I follow a blog (Muddy Boot Dreams) ..she is at White Rock..and she has blooming spring flowers too!! It seems like we will be frozen here for a couple more months:(
ReplyDeleteAlready!!! Lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteA week later, the final shreds of our foot-deep snow (which is just crazy here in Dallas/Fort Worth) are melting away. Maybe the groundhog was just thinking about the South when he saw his shadow.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are beautiful. We have had the coldest winter I've seen here and have yet to see any blooms. I do love the energy of spring, the fresh feeling. I also happen to love flower pictures:)
