Way back in 2015 |
I heard this bird singing from the tree while I was visiting the Tulip Festival in early April, 2015. I could hear the bird and followed it to where it was sitting there, singing away. and captured this lovely picture.
But since it was taken almost a decade ago, I've been saddened to realize that many of them are no longer around. Which is NOT true, I've discovered, since receiving my hearing aids last week. After much frustration about trying to get them inserted properly into my tiny ear canals, once I managed to get them correctly situated (with help from the audiologist), I was completely blown over by the incredible number of birds I could hear, once again! Although I've never lost the ability to hear the big ones, like crows and gulls, I really did think the little songbirds were gone. Walking to the bus in the morning, I am once again thrilled by the sounds of trees filled with delightful song. That is probably the most conspicuous change I've noticed so far.
Four-legged neighborhood denizens |
And yesterday as I was about to leave in the morning, I saw these deer strolling across our front lawn. They are so accustomed to people that they looked up at me but didn't change their pace as they looked for fresh green sprouts for breakfast. I saw one running across the road to avoid a car the other day, which was helped by the driver slowing down. I pondered those skinny little legs and realized it wouldn't take much for a deer to get seriously hurt. I'll continue to watch the road and hope for the best.
Pretty tulips |
While I was looking for that bird picture, I spent some time admiring the tulips that will look like this in about a month. Spring is just around the corner now, and I see signs everywhere that our drab winter colors will soon be replaced by scenes like this one.
:-)
Praise be!!! You are no longer missing out hearing the simple pleasures.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear (no pun intended 😊) you are loving your new hearing aids. I do like your starting photo which, to me, is a perfect harbinger of Spring. And yes, knowing that you are one who follows the seasons carefully, I just checked timeanddate.com and see that the March equinox here in the Seattle/Bellingham area will occur on March 20 (a Monday) at 2:24PM PDT. Yes, we’ll be back on Daylight Saving Time on March 20. Have a good week ahead DJan!
ReplyDeleteDJan, that is just wonderful to read about the bird songs. I have to tell you, your photos of the deer and tulips are just striking. On my tablet it's like looking through a window. I can see why people like yourself opt for such expenses smartphones when you can take pictures like that. 🙂
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember! Bird songs were the first pleasant sound I remember hearing again after I got my hearing aids.
ReplyDeleteYou hear birds very well but the direction is a problem. KEEPTURNING AROUND AND YOU KEEP HEARING BIRDS IN ALL DIRECTIONs. You say WOW lots of birds. There are birds you haven't heard but not as may as you think. My hearing aid buddies say the same thing.
ReplyDeleteMy wife has been hinting around that I should get hearing aids, but so far I've managed not to listen to her. But . . . there are birds singing out there?
ReplyDeleteHooray! Hooray! Any flying V geese are going to sound like Mack Truck horns! Let us know how you hear on your next hiking adventure. Keep taking notes on what you want adjusted for your next trip to the audiologist, presuming those are programmable aids. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to hear all the birds singing again. Maybe I need to follow your lead and get my ears tested.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is awesome to be able to hear the little birds again. Like a whole new world! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, there is something satisfying when I take them out at night and a hush falls upon the world — except for my tinnitus.
ReplyDeleteYeah for hearing birds again. I look forward to seeing your tulips soon! Far Side
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pleasure to hear the songbirds! Glad you can hear them again, Jan.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tulips. I plan to buy some today. Congrats on your excellent hearing aids. What a blessing.
ReplyDeleteWe have chirpers, coo-ers and caw-ers here - not too many sing here. It is so exciting when spring arrives up there!
ReplyDeleteGood to know the hearing aids are having a good review. Did you mention why brand you chose? DH and several friends are also hinting that I need hearing aids. Know I do, but haven't gotten further than thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteGood that the hearing aids are helping.
ReplyDeleteThis is Buz, but both of my browsers seem to be forcing me to post my comment anonymously. Oh well... One summer evening when the cicadas were singing away, I stepped outside and turned my hearing aids as loud as they would go. It sounded like there were thousands of cicadas all around me. I might as well have been in the Amazon rainforest.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're able to hear better again, DJan. I really think Art needs to get his hearing aids checked because he does miss a lot of sounds. I wish there was something that could give me back my sense of smell and more of my sense of taste.
