It won't be long now

My intermediate sized tomatoes, almost ripe
I just now went out to my garden and snapped a this picture of my tomatoes. Every day now I see some difference in them. In my neighbor's gardens, all the cherry tomatoes are ripe and I've been sampling them to make sure they pass inspection. I was beginning to wonder when my baseball-sized tomatoes would begin to ripen, since one of my Saturday walking friends brought dozens of beautiful, big ripe ones last week. I can hardly wait! I have two different varieties here and look forward to sampling them.
Rob's pumpkin
Just last Saturday this pumpkin was dark green, and today it's turned orange! At this time of the year, it's amazing how quickly everything in the garden is maturing. I've got some yellow onions in the ground, but I'm going to leave them for now. I've also been given sweet corn and beans from my friend John's garden, even though he tells me they are just a little early.

I have planted some kale and more lettuce for a fall harvest, but pretty much everything else in my own little garden has been harvested. I never thought I would be eating full-sized tomatoes from my plot, but this year, well you KNOW how much sunshine we've been having. The upside of the unaccustomed heat and unrelenting sun is all the amazing veggies!

  1. Looks like your tomato cage is leaning over! You can trim back tomatoes as they grow upwards and stop that upwards growth, that lets the energy go to the matersT They look yummy! :)

  2. Mmmm. Tomatoes.
I assume that your neighbours DO pass the taste test - but admire your vigilance in quality control...

  3. We have some enormous squash that was pale green the night before last and deep, deep green by morning. Mystery squash!

  4. Hey, my tomatoes are riper than yours!!! I think I can eat a couple tomorrow. My favorite sandwich is toasted cheese whiz and tomato.

  5. We haven't had an ripe tomatoes yet, but I'm feeling it too - it won't be long now. That pumpkin is fantastic! We've had a lot of sun here, as well. A really nice summer, which I'm thankful for. Seems like we're in a little lucky zone, as all around us there's been more extremes, too much rain, storms, or too dry. For us it's been just right!

  6. What a good looking pumpkin! We've been eating tomatoes from our garden - both the cherry and full-size ones. Here's hoping you get to enjoy fresh tomatoes soon.

  7. Oh yum... Your tomatoes reminded me of a neighbor who used to fry green tomatoes. They were quite good from what I remember. And then they made a movie called Fried Green Tomatoes or something like that.

  12. Your tomatoes are huge! Here in Florida, the insects usually devastate them

  13. This may have been an unpleasant summer for people but veggies do love the sun. I am watching my cantaloupe like you are your tomatoes. May we both bite into those crops soon.

  16. Hope your onions won't get too woody and tough the longer you keep them in the ground. But, then to think about it...your temps are a lot cooler than ours, so shouldn't be too bad.

The tomatoes...I love 'em a bit on the 'green' side myself.
