Who would have guessed that here in 2014 I would STILL be boppin' to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, and more! Certainly not me. But in our exercise classes, filled with white-haired aging hippies, we move to these tunes, kicking and flexing our muscles. Of course I know all the words, but I'm not alone: I laughed when several of us were singing along to the tunes loud enough to call attention to ourselves, and soon we were all laughing.

We all live in a Yellow Submarine |
It's sixty years later, and not only are the songs in our exercises classes filled with this ancient music, so is the music emanating from different retail stores around town. Somehow I don't think this will be true of today's music, sixty years from now.
Oh, and one more thing: my friend CiCi over at
Liquid Mind, Sanguine Soul posted this (just follow the link) on her blog a few days ago. I've gone over there to watch it now and then, because for some reason the relationship of the little girl with her daddy makes me cry from happiness every time. And she's really talented, too!
:-)
My zumba class has mostly zumba music. I would love it if our teacher played more "classics" like yours. I can just picture all of you singing while exercising. It's got to be so much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI checked out CiCi's video. Too, too cute!
The Beatles left an indelible mark on music and on our lives ... not many groups or musicians had that kind of influence and longevity. What great music for an exercise class!
ReplyDeleteSounds like my kind of music and my kind of exercise…love dancing or moving to music….
ReplyDeletei've seen that video before and it just is ADORABLE!!! so darn cute!
ReplyDeletei'm out of touch w/ 'today's music'.
Most of today's music will not survive the way the Beatle's did - and that's a blessing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I will hear a piece of music on the radio, and know all the words and be singing along (quietly). And then the announcer says 'and that was a hit back in 64'. Ooops - but classics don't date.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing a piece of music from our hippie days, and singing along at the top of my lungs.
ReplyDeleteI love Pink Floyd, and it turns out so does my granddaughter, both of us belting out Another Brick in the Wall, as we drive along :)
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in your dance class !
~Jo
i love the beatles and it def speaks to the longevity of their message and sound...
ReplyDeletethat was a pretty amazing video over at cicis...smiles.
Those were the days for pop music. I don't think it will be the same for today's music. Elvis, Mama and papas were much more widely listened to than today's music.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I do like the Mamas and the Papas and The Beach Boys...I never was much of a Beatles fan. Paul will be in Fargo in Concert this summer and everyone is going nuts:)
ReplyDeleteOh my, that is the cutest video. She is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe music from way back when is stuck in our minds forever. No matter how long it has been since I've heard a Beatle song if it comes on the radio I can remember every word. And I think you are right. In sixty years if a Justin Bieber song comes on the radio I don't think the reaction will be the same.
Now I'm gonna be humming Penny Lane! That's one of my favorites. As per your commentary...the music of today [for the most part] isn't what I'd call music.
ReplyDeleteWill go check out CiCi's video.
Hope you have a great day dear DJ.
Still - My Favourites....after all these years - have a great day - doing to check out link :)
ReplyDeleteScary to think of today's music ever hitting the "oldies charts."
ReplyDeleteMusic really does make exercise fun.
Beatles music, yes! I wish I heard more Beatles and ole sixties tunes at our gym!
ReplyDeleteYup! My kind of music! I'd add Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors, Jimi Hendricks...
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that dad and little girl video!!! :) :)
I just came across this quote yesterday (or maybe it was just this morning) and it stuck with me:
ReplyDelete"Good Music Doesn't Have an Expiration Date."
I totally agree.
My ipod is full of "oldies".. I sing my heart out to them!
I have that kind of music on my iPod that I walk to. Yup, my kind of music too.
ReplyDeleteThe music of our adolescence goes right to our hearts. And a big thanks for the video of the little girl and her Dad- fabulous!
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but the 20-somethings and younger also listen to the Beatles, Beach Boys and other songs of the 60s ... which I find amazing, b/c when we were kids nobody listened to Big Band and older music.
ReplyDeleteThey know their crowd. It make for a much more fun exercise session when everyone knows the music.
