Top o' the mornin' to ya (snagged from Facebook) |
Yes, we are getting close to St. Paddy's Day, on Monday. Today when the walking group all met in front of Boundary Bay Brewery, I could see that festivities were already getting started, with green beer being served already! There was a five-mile walk just beginning where we met, and everybody was dressed in green. I also learned that around noon there would be a parade. Tammy Bennett, who is the lovely lady on the right, is the Parade Marshall every year (and the Fitness Director at my local YMCA).

Pussy willows for sale at the market |
This is also the last Winter Market Day, with the regular Farmers' Market starting up next month. It isn't a warm or especially nice day today, but since it wasn't raining while we walked, all the ladies were happy to get in our six miles before having our usual coffee.
On another, sadder note, I came home and perused the news while having my lunch, since I'm a little bit obsessed over this whole Malaysian Airline mystery. It now seems it was a deliberate act, and I have surmised that the passengers are probably all gone, one way or another. Some have said on the news that if they ascended to 45,000 feet and then depressurized the cabin, everyone would have died quickly. And then what? It's the biggest mystery I've ever puzzled over, for a whole week now. I just hope there is some resolution soon for the families, who must have been going through absolute hell this past week.
:-(
Such a mixed post. I love that you got your walk in, love pussy willows and yes, my heart hurts for all those families too. Unimaginable grief and pain.
ReplyDeleteits crazy what happened to the airliner...and i guess we may never know the full story...so sad...
ReplyDeleteneed to make sure i wear green...no pinchs here...but they are calling for 3-6 inches of snow on monday...
it is true, my heart goes out to the families who have been pulled and yanked through so many possibilities, only to be sent in another direction again.
ReplyDeleteglad you got your walk in.
There will be lots of celebrations here tomorrow and Monday. Like.you the disappearance of that plane has really got to me. I hope for the families sake they have some news of what happened soon.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun walk. And yes, puzzling and heartbreaking with the airplane! I too hope the families receive answers and closure.
ReplyDeleteThis is a tragedy that going to keep on giving and giving. It's going to take a long time to resolve if it's ever resolved.
ReplyDeleteSome people are calling it the biggest aeronautical mystery ever - and I guess that means it surpasses the amelia earhart mystery. Very weird, very eerie.
ReplyDeleteIt is a mystery for sure...I hope someday the mystery is solved. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess I wore my green today, Sounders green. The city was certainly filled with it. I'll have to think of some way to make Monday special.
ReplyDeleteThe Malaysian plane situation is so confounding, with information coming in such bits and pieces over this whole week, and now, still no answers. I sure hope there are answers eventually.
I have no green in my Arizona wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've walked - I do it in Washington, but here in Tucson I've spent more time on my bicycle, getting around. I'm actually looking forward to a misty stroll when we get home in a couple of weeks.
I guess all this high tech technology just ain't working in the airports where these two with false passports should have been nabbed in the first place. With the technology, drones, spy sytems and people everywhere, how the hell do you lose a big plane with 239 people. I guess it - is still easy to slip through unknown airspace and disappear. The governments of the world already knows what happened, but cannot say because then the world would know about all the spy tech already being used each and every day - two hundred and thirty nine people gone?? A plane taken in the blink of an eye - so very sad - my heart goes out to those families who are missing loved ones.
ReplyDeleteIt is always interesting to read about your part of the world. The green makes me long for spring--with snow in our forecast. This too shall pass and it will be green in a few weeks. The plane disappearance is stranger than fiction and I have read some strange fiction. I'm hoping that it landed someplace, but I suspect it is underwater. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw a cartoon about a person who named their dog Five Miles so they can say they walked five miles today. That may be my only way to get that done.
ReplyDeleteThe plane situation reminds me of Payne Stewart's crash in which cabin pressure was lost, all quickly died but the plane was on auto pilot and flew across several states before running out of fuel. I wonder----
Just unbelievable that a plane could just disappear in this day and age, and my heart goes out to all the friends and families if those in board.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a speck of Irish in me, but I do love Irish music. I think I will celebrate with a bit of Makem and Clancy!
You are lucky to have a winter farmers market at least. No such thing here. But most of the people in the town have very large gardens. No reason for folks like me to try to grow anything because the growers are also sharers. And the people who live outside of town have even larger gardens and after they can and freeze they still have way too much produce. I am in fresh veggie heaven all summer.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, the mystery of the plane and all those people. I ache for news and information as I hurt for the families of the missing passengers and crew.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
ReplyDeleteThe winter market, I could have a good time there, looking at everything! I've never seen such big pussy willow.
When I was a kid if you wore green and you WEREN'T Irish you got pinched hard and harassed all day long. Only those of Irish descent could wear green and they were very territorial about it. Back then (1950s) everybody knew what nationality your family line was from--even teachers asked in classes, for some reason. ?? (A sad fact, really--who cares!) So, being 100% Swede I have never worn green on St. Patrick's Day. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know I don't watch the news. I'll have to google this to find out what you're talking about.
When I lived in Montreal (for the first near-thirty years of my life), St. Patrick's Day was a huge event.. downtown parade followed by some of the best music in the pubs. Everyone was Irish on March 17th. I shall wear green tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou can't help but hope that all will still turn out better than we fear with the Malaysian flight. It's otherwise too heartbreaking. I feel for the families of those who are lost.
'Tis St. Paddy's Day tomorrow. the corned beef and cabbage has been bought and I'll be a-cookin' it. Yum.! M
ReplyDeleteThose green hats and smiling faces made me smile too. It's great that you have a winter market to visit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a disturbing mystery. I do hope the plane or it's debris can be found soon to give closure to the families.
Happy St' Pat's Day. Those pussy willows are huge! Prayers for all the regular folks who got on that plane just to go where they were headed.
ReplyDeleteDear DJan, the airline mystery continues to perplex and like you I find myself wondering about the final moments of life for all the passengers. We live in terrifying times. But then perhaps all times are perilous. Peace.
ReplyDeleteI think we are all obsessed with the Malaysian airline. One gets on a plane, expecting to debark at one's destination, and then this happens. It makes no sense at all. I too keep thinking of those on board and what they knew, thought, and experienced.
ReplyDeleteI haven't found pussy willows in years. I have to do something about that. I always used to decorate the house with them. Love anything natural in the house.
ReplyDeleteA puzzle regarding the plane: not one cell phone call was made by a single passenger which seems odd ...
