Flower and Garden Show tomorrow

From the Flower Show 2012
Every year my friend Judy and I head down to Seattle to attend the Flower and Garden Show at the Washington State Convention Center. We usually go on the Senior Center bus, which means we don't have to find a place to park, and somebody else takes care of all the arrangements. We just have to show up at 8:30am and sign in. It's only there for five days; tomorrow is the first day.

It's the 25th anniversary of the Northwest flower show. This is also the first year that I will be interested in the garden implements that are displayed along with the flowers, since I am now (ahem) a gardener with a little experience under my belt. The very best part of the flower show is walking into spring after a long winter. Acres of blooming flowers are displayed in the entrance before one heads to the main area where show gardens have been created that amaze me every year. There are also lots of exhibitors selling everything from A to Z. We will have about four hours to roam, admire, sniff, and purchase.

I'll be going on my hike Thursday so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post my favorite pictures from this year, but never fear: you will be treated to them in due course. It's funny; sometimes I wonder how I ever managed to squeeze a full-time job into my life!
:-)

  2. Have fun! Any chance of you seeing Linda Reeder at the show? I'd love to see you and her if I ever find myself in Seattle.

  3. I would love to see a little bit of spring right now! Although, I did notice that my iris is starting to push through the cold ground. It gives me hope that spring is almost here!

  11. I will be there tomorrow too! We hope to come on the Link light rail, if we get started early enough to get parking. I have never taken my camera to a show before, and we have missed only one in 25 years. I'm considering taking my small camera this time.

  12. Enjoy! I would love to see fresh flowers right now. I'm looking forward to your report on the show DJan.

I know what you mean, I think I may have had more free time when I worked full time than I do now.

  13. I am really looking forward to your flower show post. And I also do not know how I ever found time to work. Which says a lot of good things about my life and about yours.

  14. Well DJan, you're going to a flower show and we are butt high in snow, although its been raining since early morning - more like heavy rain and high winds. Water is puddlin' up everywhere and low areas might get some flooding. This is just crazy - we just had a blizzard?? Have fun at show and looking forward to your photos.

  16. I can only imagine how great this Flower and Garden Show must be. I am jealous. We will have the one here in CS this weekend. We plan on going.

I'm getting antsy about gardening and wonder how I will survive without my garden I left behind when we moved. I do plan on trying to do a community garden this year. I resisted the thought until I remembered how much fun you had with yours. We will see how this all goes.

  17. I just read all the posts I missed (you know I don’t comment on each but I do read them all.) I can’t believe how athletic your sister is – a swim at 6:30 am! And I had never heard of the Valsalva maneuver – but I’ll remember it, thanks. I also bought a food chopper after visiting my daughter, but I don’t use it because I have arthritis in my hands and after a while it hurts after too much chopping. The spiralizer sounds interesting – I have never seen that gadget but I can see how it would work nicely in a salad. The garden show sounds great – so many opportunities for pictures – I’ll be waiting to look at them!

  21. What fun thats going to be... I do love garden shows in the Twin Cities but since I'm doing wildflower gardening these days the purpose now is just enjoyment rather than practical application...
