First actual meal made with my garden kale |
Well, here I am sitting at the computer writing another Saturday post, when I fully expected to be skydiving by this time of day. It was not to be. All my gear was set out yesterday evening, ready to go, when the phone rang with Linny telling me the news that the weather forecast was NOT looking good for this weekend after all. When she called, we were in the midst of a thunderstorm, complete with lightning and thunder, something we just don't get all that much here. (Linny lives almost three hours south of me, and the weather tends to vary quite a lot over western Washington.) She suggested we save ourselves for Sunday, hoping for better weather, so here I am, feeling partly to mostly happy with the way the day is shaping up. That kale was absolutely delicious, my first garden greens where I harvested enough for both of us.

Leo on Friday the 13th |
Yesterday at the coffee shop, little Leo was very excited to see me when he walked in with his dad. He is one of my favorite people, and the only three-year-old I know who walks right up and begins chattering away with stories of his latest adventures. "I've got new Crocs, you wanna see how high I can jump with them?" I asked if I could take his picture with my iPad camera; he posed for me in the picture above, and then the fun began.
I know it's a little blurry, but he was suspended in the air, showing me quite well how high he can go. He approved of this picture, so here it is for you to enjoy as well. Those Crocs are pretty amazing, especially with such a fantastic athlete in them.
This morning I went on the Saturday walk with my lady friends, but I left my camera in my pack. There was nothing nearly as interesting to me as
last week's creative art. However, after the six-mile fast-paced walk, I hightailed it down to the Farmers' Market for some greens. There again I looked for something exciting to photograph, but nothing appeared. So here I am, picture-less for today. I almost went out to the garden to talk to my plants and take a picture, but instead I'm sitting here writing. The sun is trying to make a comeback, so I'll be heading out to the garden to say hello pretty soon. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to a day with full sun tomorrow. Hopefully: it is the Pacific Northwest after all!
:-)
Oh...I sure hope the rain is making it's way here...we're really in a terrible drought in Il. I so wish for a cloudy and rainy day. Instead the sun is so bright everything has a white- washed look to it. Little Leo is getting taller. Cute pic.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your kale.
i love your personal weather forecast. :) and little leo is quite cute with those curls!
ReplyDeleteThe kale and Leo both looked great. I am hoping for Sunday sky diving weather for you.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an eventful time...he sure is cute!! I can't stand 'crocs' but they're still the in thing with shoe style. I love the post title today. Very fitting. But...sure wish it'd rain HERE. We get threats with lightning and thunder but nothing else. You mentioned cantaloupe in your comment left for me just now...I love cantaloupe. Especially Rocky Ford --- but with the e-coli scare last year, I think I'll not even look for them in our markets around town.
ReplyDeleteHope you've been having a good week, and tomorrow's another day, perhaps the weather will cooperate.
Oh dear, rain again? We've had a number of days now without rain. In fact it would be okay with me if we did get a little. The temps yesterday and today couldn't be more perfect, low 70s. Leo is growing up. I almost failed to recognize him. He's still a cutie. Hope tomorrow works out for you to sky dive.
ReplyDeletehaha your little friend leo is a hoot...i love kids...they are so spontaneous...cool on the kale harvest...and i hope it clears for your jump tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteYou have established a great relationship with Leo, as shown by his openness with you. Love your title today.
ReplyDeleteKool about the kale. ;) And that little Leo is just adorable. I can see how he'd be a day-maker. I hope you get to dive tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your sun tomorrow. It's been very slow to appear here today, but is finally peaking through. It sounds like your Plan B was very satisfying, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteDarling boy in his bouncy Crocs!
Leo is a cute little guy with a keen eye for the important things in life. The kale looks very healthy and tasty. I wouldn't know the best way to prepare it since I have never worked with it--salad or cooked?
ReplyDeleteThe garden goods look great!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of crocs as good jumping shoes. (He is such a doll!)
I hope you get to go jumping tomorrow. Oh, and I hope your slugs are gone! ;)
What an adorable kid! And those greens...yum. Onward to an excellent skydive tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteLeo is quite a cutie...kids can certainly chatter on when they have a mind to...love it! I used to hate Crocs but not so much any more...and no, I don't own a pair. I hear they're supposed to be very comfy shoes tho which makes me feel quite tempted. I've mentioned getting Crocs on the odd occasion much to my youngest son's horror. He swears that, if I buy some, he will throw them in the bin (garbage) when I'm not looking. lol
ReplyDeleteGlad to here your home-grown kale was a success! So much goodness there.
Too bad you had to reschedule the jump but all for the best by the sounds of the weather.
We had a week of rain into this weekend but I'm hoping we will get sunshine from tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! xo
I wish you blue skies for your adventure tomorrow !
ReplyDeleteYou kale looks wonderful, and I can only imagine the taste...yum.
Your little friend Leo looks like a character...never met a stranger, comes to mind ;)
Enjoy your day of soaring my friend !
~Jo
Well, I think Leo was well worth a photo or two, even if you were photo-less the rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteThe kale looks great, and it looks like green beans in the pot, right? Ours are not ready yet, very slow to flower and set fruit this year. At least we're getting loads of raspberries and blueberries, keeping me content until the veggies appear.
It took forever for the sun to break through today, but no thunder storms predicted that I'm aware of. Hope your weather improves for your jumping tomorrow!
I like the new term you invented...partly to mostly happy. You could invent a whole happiness scale that people could use to rate themselves???
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your garden and that you have something to eat.
Those greens look wonderful! I bet you were quite pleased with yourself as you at them. You should be.
ReplyDeleteLove the cute little picture of Leo. What a cutie.
Aw, Leo is such a cutie pie, I love the mid air photo. Your kale crop must be doing good as that batch looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI hope the weather improves for tomorrow so you can get those knees in the breeze. Our area has been have some pretty nasty thunderstorms, mostly north of us. The lightning is causing quite a few grass fires.
That's a sweet little friend you have there. Sounds like he is pretty fearless.
ReplyDeleteLinny had the right idea. Trying to fly an airplane during thunder and lightening is just a terrible challenge. So I understand the "No jumping today" bit.
Hope the rest of our weekend is good.
I wondered what had happened to little/big Leo. Lol. Is he toilet trained, yet? Good you had time to write today. I always enjoy your posts. Hope you get to sky dive on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mid air shot of Leo. I wonder if crocs would help me to do that!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the kale. It looks great, but what did you eat it with? Don't tell me you eat it on its own? Leo has grown! My how big he is now and his personality shines through. Isn't it great that you have this little person in your life. Over here we have a cafe culture. It is very important to us. I'm glad to see it's thriving there too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't your home-grown kale just about the best you've ever tasted!
ReplyDeleteHandsome little fella is Kale and curls to fall in love with. Your greens look so yummy n tasty.
ReplyDeleteAh, the weather kept you outta the sky - perhaps another day and you delighted us anyway with sweet photos and optimistic forecast for another day to play. Have a good night
I think about you every Sunday..leaping out of planes! Your kale looks good and you grew it yourself!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note how much were the raspberries at the market? I paid $2 a pint for ours but of course we picked our own. You have those beautiful blackberries that grow wild out there that I have to pay $3 a pint for at the grocery store:)
I just made pickles. The cucumbers are on the rise. But I'm sad the herbs are going South. Sniff. And our raspberries are history for this year. Oh, and I just found out that our blueberry crop at the farm is toast. Too hot and dry this year. another sniff. Good luck with your garden greens. I'll of course stay tuned.
ReplyDeletePartly to Mostly Happy is a very good place to be. Smiles to you...
ReplyDeletePartly to mostly sounds better than partly to not at all.
ReplyDeleteI think I could call the story of my life Partly to Mostly. Ha. Sorry about the skydive cancellation but your photos of the gorgeous greens make me hungry. I am a huge, huge I say, fan of kale. Have a bite for me, my friend.
Dear DJan, I'm glad you talk to and with your plants. I'm sure they respond by growing veggies for us or lovely flowers for us to ooh and ahh over.
ReplyDeleteLeo is such a love. Thank you for sharing him and his athletic prowess as he jumps in his new crocs!
Peace,
