I would give credit to the person who picked up a pen, a 3x5 index card and wrote this graph of the Seven Deadly Sins, extended version, and then put it on line, if I could. While I was looking for a picture to illustrate my post about the 7 Deadlies, I found this in several places but without any attribution, so I would like to say, if nothing else, good job! I hope you get a laugh or two out of it as I did.
I also decided, thanks to sas, to think about having a word for 2010. Hers is "shed" (and you can read about what she means at that link), and I chose "extend." Since my path in retirement is just beginning and is taking shape, I figured it would be a good way to think about the year ahead. Some of the ways it fits are:
- Extend and continue in the direction I've already begun
- Extend a hand to those less fortunate by volunteering in a still-to-be-decided manner
- Stretch my boundaries by contemplating my personal life issues
- Extend my life span by eating healthily and continuing to exercise
- Buy only pants with elastic waistbands
What word would you choose for 2010 if you had to choose just one?
:-)
Peace.
ReplyDeleteoh, I love your word! extending yourself: stretching horizons and conquering nature. it makes me think of abundance and pliability. brilliant!
ReplyDeletescience guy is also looking into volunteering this year - he has even started a blog about it :)
That's a good one. My word last year was patience...I'm not sure how well I did with that. I'll have to think about what this year's word should be...Perhaps expansion. We all know I'm going to be expanding my family. Maybe with that I can expand my creativity. I have already said I'm expanding my nutritional knowledge and culinary repertoire to increase the health of my family.
ReplyDeleteThis is great because it's often tough to sum up in one word your goals for the future. I have to admit that I understand about the elastic. In the last few years I've been all across the board weight wise, and elastic was one of my very best friends!
Serenity.

Love.
or
Serendipity
or
Happiness
or
Reciprocation
Or maybe
decisions.

Retire! Or perhaps Bliss, which is what I intend to sustain during retirement. Or Transition, since each aspect of retiring after all these years requires some thought.
ReplyDeleteSurvival!
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm retired, it's a major financial adjustment. The last couple of years, I made some pretty good bucks, and now a huge drop in income! I'm learning.
I have to take you to task on the elastic waistband pant thing... A true Hippy girl like I know you are would NEVER give up on her jeans! Please! I won't believe it!
ReplyDeleteOh, never give up on a favorite pair of jeans. My one word would be Create, there are so many little projects I want to complete this year. Most are written but I also want to improve my photography skills.
ReplyDeletePeace, Love and Happiness for the New Year,
Judy
Retirement for me is not feeling guilty. I am reading your blog now and it is after 9:00 pm and I have not had dinner yet. Well I told my husband to reheat some hoppin john I made for New Year. On a regular day I would have eaten earlier, got my clothes ready for work and started to go to bed since I had to get up at 4:00 am every morning – I still can’t believe I did that for years – now I don’t have to go to bed until 1 or 2 if I read and I don’t have to feel guilty about it. Retirement is great. So I would chose no 1 – continue going in the direction I have already begun.
ReplyDeleteI will have to say health. I am going to strive to be a healthy eater, exerciser, and thinker. I really need to get started - I've been reading and sucking on red hots. Not exactly the best start...
ReplyDeleteFirst word that came to mind was "Hope", so I'll go with that.
ReplyDeleteKathryn : )
Dreams. So many are coming true this year! How about we make this the year of elastic-waisted jammy pants!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You made me think with this one. I still haven't come up with my 2010 word but I am working on it though.
ReplyDeleteMy word is - relax. I am trying not to get caught up in the hurriedness of life. Everything up to this point has been planned out and on a schedule - no more. I am doing things when I want with NO guilt.
ReplyDeleteWell...I'm trying anyway.
Learning to adjust to the fact that I don't have to get up early unless I have an appointment like I did yesterday, and not having to rush to get so much done are two of things I am appreciating now that I am not working. This morning I knew I was sort of awake and could have gone back to sleep and started thinking of the book I am reading and the post I wanted to write on my blog and how good the coffee was going to taste when I smiled to myself and told myself "Hey, I'm awake". And it felt good.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great word!! I really need to think of one!!
ReplyDeleteI think that extend is a fine word. I picked "smile" for mine..smiling is suppose to release feel good hormones! Well, It is worth a try! I love my elastic banded pants and sweats and capris..they are comfy..and I get cranky if I feel poured into a pair of pants...so i am with you on the elastic..I am an apple too..with little legs...:)
ReplyDeleteTolerance - because I need it right now. I need to be patient and tolerant of people who are not like me. I could do with more help in that direction. I like your word.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Star
Dang. Just lost my comment.
ReplyDeleteIt was profound, too! lol
As I was saying, I, too, am an apple. I hope to be a smaller apple one day but an apple I will always be. But YOU are one VERY FIT apple, my friend.
And my word would be "do". I must do what's before me. It will change my life. Thanks for asking. I wouldn't have considered it otherwise. :)
