New iPod Touch

Oh my! I am behind in my blogging, because I was at the coffee shop yesterday salivating over... no, not anything behind the counter, but a new iPod Touch that someone was showing me. I was so enchanted with it, that during my shopping frenzy, I bought one for myself!

The problem with this is: after hours and hours of reading and experimenting, I am now barely able to figure out how to synch things with my computer. Since I bought this at a Best Buy store and not an Apple store, I had to download the latest version of iTunes to be able to use it (this took more than a half hour), and then I needed to download the latest version of the new operating system for the Touch. Eeek! Then I had to call Apple Care to find out what I was doing wrong...

I have managed to get on the Internet, and now I must learn how to get OUT. I was able to pull up my own page (this one), but it's not as easy as that. I do now have the correct date, stock market quotes, and soon I will learn how to download bird calls and learn how to put new applications on here.

I was just minding my own business, but it seems that without having the phone part of the iPhone, I now have a way to get all the relevant apps that I wanted, and all I have to do is learn how to use it. Oh, what have I gotten myself into? I am now completely overwhelmed, which always happens when I get started with these things.

My blogging buddies might have wondered what happened to me if I didn't at least try to explain. It's almost 3:00 pm and I have only just begun! Those Christmas cards will need to wait until I've got a handle on this. Hang on, I'm almost there...

  1. Thanks for saving me from that! Us MAC girls have to stick together! Do they make one of these already set up for our MAC's? Wasn't it Apple that first invented these?

  2. IPhone....I'm out of the loop....and think I will stay out. lol I still refuse to learn how to take a photo with the cell. When I push some button that puts the speaker phone on, I go nuts and to the 44,000 page instruction booklet to find out how to turn it off.

Enjoy your IPhone, but I intend to stay ignorant unless, of course, I'm hit with a moment of insanity and buy one.

  4. Hmm, one would think that one piece of technology made by Apple would recognize another Apple product with no hassles. I guess that would make life too easy.

I'm thinking about a Blackberry or a Palm Pre to replace my current phone and just keep my little mp3 player. I would be interested in what you think about the apps on the iPod after you've used it for awhile.

    Good luck,
    Judy

  5. I bought myself an iPod Touch right after they introduced them. I love it. It is the typical Apple product...once you start using it, it will take care of itself. I keep all my contact on it and love the notes feature that is part of mail. It keeps itself synced every time you plug it into your Mac. You can decide which apps you want to sync up (iCal, contacts, etc.) Also, I manage my music manually so I can decide what I want on my iPod Touch and what I want to leave off. I also love watching videos on it. You will LOVE it! You can rent a movie on iTunes, then watch it wherever you want on your Touch.

  6. It's getting hard to imagine life without my iPhone. It's stuck to my hand, and this has only gotten worse after nearly a year. Before I got the iMac, the iPhone was synced to my Windows PC, and it took some fussing to get everything moved to the iMac (without losing anything), but I think I'm finally there. Life is good!!!

  8. My hubbie replaced the battery on my old 2004 ipod last night. Half of me was hoping he'd break it and I could get an itouch! But the other half wanted him to succeed since I HATE figuring out new gadgets! I'd be as lost as you! He ended up being successful and I'm stuck with my 5 year old ipod. happy and sad.

  12. I get all of my Apple products at the Apple store and then ask them to help me. I have the I-Phone and love it. Once you get it set up and get the hang of it you'll find it to be pretty easy to operate. I have everything, inlcuding my music, on my I-Phone. My daughter decided to just go with a Go-Phone (one you pay for as you go - very bare-bones) but came back to the I-Phone. Just can't beat the apps.

  13. My bf is in love with her I-phone. I just need my phone to ring and dial out. I guess if I had a different lifestyle I might see the need. Until that day, I'm content with my laptop.

  16. That's so exciting! I'm a little leery of all the wonderful technology out there because I am a little slow...
I remember when iPod's were first becoming big and my sister and I sat down to order one for my husband for Christmas. We ordered what was the top of the line (at the time) and were so enamored with the idea that we ended up ordering one for ourselves as well. My husband was the only one surprised when he opened his gift:) I still use my iPod constantly (particularly when cleaning and exercising).
I see all the commercials for the touch and all the apps, but I can't justify the expense when my iPod classic is still in perfect shape.

  17. Dear D-Jan, I am laughing hysterically at your antics! I have been there so many times myself. In the end I usually wish I'd left well alone. At least I will know who to ask if I ever get one of those things (God forbid!).
    Keep trying............
    Blessings, Star
