Flowers

You may have to click on this and enlarge to appreciate all the flowers in this collage. I am having fun with the Picnik program I downloaded (it's free at www.picnik.com) but beware, it costs $25 a year to have all the bells and whistles, and it only took me a couple of hours to buy the premium edition. Without paying, you can only download five pictures, and then the others drop off. Some of the editing tools are only available in the premium edition, too, and they are totally cool. (They also offer monthly rates but you have to be careful because they want to automatically sign you up each month.) This collage layout is only available in premium. All pictures were taken by me this summer and fall.

I just returned from the yarn store, where I bought a hat pattern and yarn for another scarf. It already seems odd to sit down in front of the television without my knitting -- that took no time! I will work on the hat and scarf for Christmas gifts. Although I considered buying yarn to make myself a vest, it would have meant a lot of money and no time to make any handcrafted gifts. So I'm happy, and I'll show you my projects once they are finished.

We have another wind- and rainstorm on the way for tonight. Even for this part of the country, it's unusual to have 50+ mph winds day after day. I see, however, in the long-term forecast that we've got a high pressure ridge setting up for the Thanksgiving time frame, with a much needed weather break. One thing I've noticed with a lot of joy is to watch the birds flying in the stiff winds: they like to face into the wind and flap like crazy, then turn and soar with the wind, having what looks like a whole lot of fun.

  1. Looking forward to seeing the hat and scarf planned. Love the collage...I need to see what my program, Corel's Paint Shop Pro, can do in the collage effort.

PS: Don't go out tonight...you might be blown away.

  4. The collage is breathtaking! Seriously!
You need to blow that up to poster size and frame it. It is gorgeous!!

  5. The purples in your collage all match your profile photo. Good work! Back when I had a minute, I used to knit blankets for premees in the hospital. Nice and simple knitting for a beginner, but so worthwhile! A suggestion, anyway.

  6. Congratulations Jan, this is a beautiful collage, and purple is one of my favorite colors! I do not knit but I crochet, and since I got hooked on blogging, I have abandoned my hobby.
On a side note, there is another mosaic program for free. check out bighugelabs.com, just a suggestion too.

  7. I've always though being a bird would be fun!

The pictures are beautiful. I really loke the collage. We have been having very high winds here, too. Over 100mph on the peaks last night, which is not far from where we live. Kind of scary!

  9. That's a beautiful collage! I'm going to have to start watching the birds a little closer. We get strong winds a lot! I wish I could soar like that...

  11. Clever, isn't it, how some folks can use their skills in new ways to make money. I am happy that you enjoy the program picnik. The collage looks nice.

  12. The collage is glorious D-Jan and most welcome on this blustery and wed November night! Like you, we are having some atrocious weather here in Britain. Cockermouth in Cumbria has suffered terribly this week, google it and you'll see what I mean.
So glad you're enjoying your knitting. It's a lovely way to pass the winter evenings.
I have just started a patchwork quilt! Am I a glutton for punishment. For me, there are not enough long, dark evening! I think I would do well in the far north, sitting around a fire and listening to all those wonderful Norse legends, whilst knitting a wonderfully thick, yoked sweater.

  13. The collage is great, all those flowers are beautiful. I have played with a friend's Photo Shop but still haven't convinced myself that I need it or a similar program. Maybe one of these days.

A break from the wind would be really nice. I just rescued one of the garbage cans that I thought I had secured from the middle of the driveway.

  14. Ooh, I love the collage. I'm tempted to sign myself up and see what I can create. Of course, half the time I don't have time to blog, much less play with my pictures. I guess I'll have to just keep enjoying yours!
I am happy you're going to knit some more. It's really a great time of year for that. We are leaving soon to visit family for the holidays and while I'm not looking forward to several hours in a car I am looking forward to the opportunity to knit. I got several different fun and fuzzy yarns together last night so I could drag them along with me!
