I love comments too and sometimes I respond in the comments if a questions was asked or if I have a relevant comment, but most of the time I don't respond. I don...I think you have asked a valid question. I don't respond to comments on my blog because I just don't dedicate that much time to blogging. I love my blogging friends, and I try to keep up with them through blogging and Facebook, but I don't get to blogs every time a blog goes up until days later sometimes. I sometime respond privately though email if I have the blogger's email address. I even carry on a correspondence with many bloggers via email, messenger, or even text, but I don't with everyone. I just don't have time. I have a large family that I try to keep up with via phone and text and I have an active social life with friends that I spend time with or talk with via the phone. I also like to read and write and don't always have time for blogging. I never go back and read comments that bloggers leave on their own blogs. Blogging is a personal thing. Each of us approach it differently I think. I don't have a big following by any means, but I do have a core of faithful commenters. I am very loyal in responding to the people I have gradually gotten to know over the years and they are usually pretty loyal commenters on my blog, too. Some blogger friends have progressed to private email friends over time and some have become pen pals! (I love writing letters--even if I may be quite slow.) But I fully realize that some are way too busy for email conversations or letters. Things kind of flow the way they are meant to. :)

I am always excited to see a new commenter. Some pop in once or for a while and then disappear--and that's fun. I'm always a little curious about the followers who never comment--which is the majority. I think my people know I have limitations, but they might not know how nice it is to sit quietly when I am unable to do anything else and chat with my online buddies. (I have a laptop table by my recliner.) If I get to the point I can't even do that, they understand. I do have wonderful blogland friends. I am still amazed at all the people I have gotten to know from around the world who do such different activities and live in interesting places (like yourself). They have become my sweet blog-family. Life is so amazing! :)

LOL! That's my routine anyway. I feel it is important to check in with the people that have taken the time to comment. Like you! And I've always enjoyed your blogging adventures. I love reader comments as much as the next guy. Otherwise, it's a mystery who is actually out there reading our blogs. Our stats could just be random google hits that don't stick around to enjoy them. I never check back for answered questions either. But I've noticed a lot of bloggers do respond to every blog comment. Well, you've hit a nerve with us bloggers today. I put a lot of effort into my once a week posts now, so I'm glad I have a small group of people that enjoy it. I never worry about comments, although if someone asks me a question, I do reply through a direct email. I feel as though that makes it more personal. Its like one of my buddy's, eh, asking a question and you always take time for your buddy's, right.....so, I'm saying I do not feel left out or ignored if there are no comments. According to my visits, there are far more bloggers than I ever imagined visiting my page. To make a comment to "Tom Sightings" above - honey, comments left are never considered lame, not by me anyway - I think(as well as any bloggers) that its wonderful that you took the time to comment. I always appreciate any comment you leave DJan. I love reading your posts for they make me feel that I am right up there on the Mountain with you n your pals. For a period of time I responded via email to commenters. These days I try to reply back on my blog because I think it shows respect for the commenter and let's others know that you appreciate their comments. That said, I rarely go back to blogs I've commented on to see if the author has replied unless I've asked a question. It's an ongoing dilemma and I don't know the "correct" thing to do. I probably will return to this post to get a sense of what others are doing though. If, however, the commenter doesn't have email enabled, I will endeavor to respond (if a response is necessary) on my post. However, I have been thinking a bit about this. I follow some blogs where the blogger responds online and, sometimes it creates quite a conversation in the comments, which is interesting.
